Pride in the Park ๐๐ถ
People, pets, burgers, ice cream, raffles, cakes, this yearsโ Pride event in Abergele was a brilliant turn out and fun day out for everyone involved. Read the rest of our blog for a recap of the fun filled day!
Why we celebrate
Pride month is about acceptance, equality and celebrating the work of LGBTQ+ people. Although it is an important time to celebrate the progress that has been made across legislation, attitudes and behaviours, it is also a continued protest. The first Pride, in June 1970, marked the first anniversary since the uprising at New Yorkโs Stonewall Inn.
Since then, the celebrations surrounding pride have also been a sign of fighting for liberation, visibility and equality.
Here at petplace, we pride ourselves on equality and diversity as a company and we love celebrating all things Pride. June is very important to our colleagues, our loyal customers and our Company Directors Sion & Paul.
Hereโs what assistant manager of our Llangefni store Jack had to say: โI think itโs great for businesses to show their support for the community around them and to show that it is a safe place where all are welcome and respected. There is too much hate in this world and if seeing communities supporting the pride movement makes one young person growing up LGBTQS+ feel loved and valued then it is a win!โ. Petplaces’ event
Our Pride event at petplace was filled with good vibes and like-minded people. The team at petplace spent the day before the event setting up and making the store a rainbow paradise.
There was a multicolored welcome sign with rainbow balloons upon entering the store, it gave a real festival vibe. When entering the dog park where the event took place you would have to walk through the rainbow balloon archway. The dog park was filled with Pride flags, rainbow paw prints, good music and even better vibes.
That Burger Guy came and served up some delicious burgers, along with an ice cream van keeping everyone cool. We had an ice cream cart set up just for pets too! We had a face painter busy painting all things Pride, lots of games like hook a duck with prizes, crafts and a bouncy castle. Additionally, we held a raffle to name a giant dog toy and gave away a hamper full of petplace goodies to raise money for mind.
The dog park was filled with faces old and new, and we received some new membership sign ups. Not to mention the whole team got stuck in with doggy cuddles at the dog park.
The dog park crew created a rainbow hot chocolate for the event and customers loved it so much we are keeping it available all throughout the month of June. Our dog park manager Amie also decorated some heart shaped dog biscuits with a touch of Pride vibes.
Some feedback we received from customers was that โthere was a great atmosphereโ and that they โenjoyed the pride cakeโ made by the brilliant Roylebakes.
